The phylum Mollusca is divided into five main classes: pelecypods, or bivalves (Pelecypoda, or Bivalvia), includes oysters, clams, mussels; gastropods (Gastropoda), snails, sea slugs; cephalopods (Cephalopoda), squids, octopuses; scaphopods (Scaphopoda), tooth shells; Polyplacophora, chitons.
