This has been found to result in an increase in total acid output suggesting that the net effect of intestinal influences is to inhibit gastric acid secretion. (Feldman et al, p. 1784) The term ‘enterogastrones’ has been used to refer to intestinal signals that inhibit gastric acid secretion. Peptide YY, secretin, and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide are all known to inhibit gastric acid secretion and most of these signals act by stimulating the release of somatostatin by D cells in the stomach.   Your Comment
