Question
What is listserv?

Answers

LISTSERV is an automatic mailing list manager program. Each mailing list has a e-mail address which LISTSERV controls. For example the Novell mailing list has as its e-mail address NOVELL@listserv.syr.edu.
LISTSERV forwards any mail sent to the list to all the people on the mailing list (in fact not all mail messages are forwarded: LISTSERV tries to catch spurious or faulty messages before they are forwarded). LISTSERV has its own e-mail address as well: the LISTSERV responsible for the Novell list can be found at LISTSERV@listserv.syr.edu.
