Question
Who was the first Muslim to use a coin?

Answers

The first Muslim who made Islamic Coins was Amirul Momineen Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) when he took charge of the government. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, 13th Edition, Volume 17, page 904: The first Islamic coins were started by Imam Ali in the year 40 After Hijra, and were produced in Basra (a city in Iraq) when Imam Ali was there. There are evidences that the coins produced by Imam Ali (a.s.) had a print on them in Arabic (Waliullah), according to Al- Muqtataf, vol. 49, p. 58. Before Imam Ali (a.s.), the Muslims used the Persian coins, as is mentioned in ‘Al Dinar al Islami’, p.17-18.   Your Comment
