Question
Can rings be worn in the finger next to the thumb? If not, why?

Answers

It is Makrooh (Better to avoid) wearing rings in the finger next to the thumb (i.e. the index finger) and also in the middle finger. During the times of the earlier Prophets (a.s.), people who were their enemies and enemies of the true religion of Allah had the practice of wearing rings in these fingers. These people had incurred the Wrath of Allah. Hence Muslims are asked to avoid this practice in order that they may not identify themselves with those people. Incidentally they also had the practices of whistling and clapping, which are also Makrooh in Islam.   Your Comment
