The focus of ISO 9001:2000 is on the customer. The customer must be highly
satisfied. His perception depends largely on the products supplied. The quality
of the products depends on the way in which the organization realizes these
products. The work environment plays a part in this: the people must not be
hindered in their work, but in contrast the work environment must invite them to
provide such a performance that the customer can get what he requires, or
even more than that. You only have to determine and then maintain and
improve the aspects of the work environment that are essential for this.
These activities form just a part of occupational health and safety management.
An occupational health and safety management system focuses primarily on the
employees (and on meeting the legal requirements), while in quality
management based on ISO 9001:2000 the focus is on the customer. You can
systematically pay attention to occupational health and safety using various
national and international guidelines and specifications, such as BS 8800 and
