Question
Can you tell us how come Sunni Imams Abu Hanifah, Hanbal, Shafi and Malik were students of Imam Ja’far ibn Muhammad as- Sadiq (a.s). Also tell me how the leader of Ashairas and of Motazilas were students of Muhammad Hanafiyyah the son of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.)?

Answers

Meeting and gaining some knowledge from a great scholar does not necessarily mean always being faithful to the teacher and his teachings. The student may opt to be unfaithful. There were many people who met and learned from the prophets, but then went astray. The person who informed the Jews to kill Prophet Easa [Jesus] (a.s.) was one of his close companions and students. Abu Hanifa and Malik met and listened to Imam Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (a.s.) but due to influence from governments and desire for worldly titles, they distanced themselves from the Ahlul-Bayt (a.s.) and joined hands with the governments. The creation of Sunni sects was instigated and supported by such anti-Ahlul-Bayt governments, which did everything to divide the Muslim Ummah and take them away from the Ahlul-Bayt (a.s.). The same applies to Abul-Hasan Al-Ash’ari and Wasil bin Ataa’.   Your Comment
