Question
Is it required for a convert to Islam to take the shahada in the presence of a Maulana? Also, does the person have to take an Islamic name upon conversion to replace their ‘Christian’ name? If these things are not required, are they common or advisable?

Answers

There is no requirement as mentioned above in both instances. Accepting Islam is between a person and his or her Lord only. Changing names is also because of cultural and social implications. It is advisable to change names and have witnesses when accepting Islam.   Your Comment
