Why do most plants present opposite phyllotaxis?

Phyllotaxis is the way leaves are arranged on shoots. Most plants have opposite phyllotaxis (alternating in sequence, one in one side of the shoot, the following in the opposite side) as a solution to prevent self shading of the leaves thus improving the efficiency of photosynthesis.   Your Comment
